BorderLore, SFA's monthly e-journal, aims to document, share, and elevate folklife in the borderlands region (Arizona, New Mexico, southern California, southern Utah, west Texas, and northern Mexico), seeking what is often “hidden in plain view.” By celebrating the “embellished ordinary,” we hope to connect people across culture, tradition, and geography.
Regular features "Thinking Like A Folklorist" engage regional thought leaders, cultural organizers, and folklorists in storytelling and skill building for the field at large covering topics such as: "Reciprocity in Fieldwork" by Dr. James "Big Jim" Griffith, or "Folklife In The Age of a Pandemic" by Dr. Maribel Alvarez. We have recently increased to weekly stories during the pandemic to present timely information, expand opportunities for contributors, and share new forms of dynamic documentation such as audio narratives and live interviews. We will also launch a new section called "ClimateLore," exploring the impacts of the climate crisis on culture and heritage and forms of resilience found in traditional and folk communities. _____ Project Website: click here State: Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas (along the US/Mexico border) Category: Artist Employment, Education, Environmental Issues, Health & Wellbeing, Underserved Community Outreach, Social Justice |
