Texas Folklife's "Stories for Creative Forces" (SFCF) is an initiative of our longtime award-winning "Stories from Deep in the Heart" folklore and media training program. SFCF is a series of audio production workshops for veterans, service members and their families. Workshops are designed to help current and prior service members express their stories and folklore (customs and traditions) through audio production training. Participants gain experience in research and interviewing techniques, audio recording, logging, transcribing, writing composition, and story crafting with audio field recordings.
SFCF addresses mental health of veterans and family members, allowing participants to express themselves in a creative safe space. This program encourages storytelling, folklore and cultural studies, and media production as methods of coping with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and PTSD issues (the "invisible wounds of war") experienced by soldiers. Given the challenges posed by the covid-19 pandemic, Texas Folklife is currently working with program partners to develop and implement online and virtual training modules for this program. _____ Project Website: click here State: Texas Category: Economic Development, Health & Wellbeing, Mental Health Services, Military/Veterans, Underserved Community Outreach, |
